MY SEPTEMBER ISSUE: WHILE YALL WERE SLEEPING ON MY SEQUINS PART 2

So have you all ever read the old childrens magazine-HIGHLIGHTS and in the back of the book it has a game- "WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?"...well I want to ask you the same thing but also answer the question at the same time

Q: "WHAT'S WRONG WITH THESE PICTURES???"

 A: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

Ok so of course we are vastly approaching the major month of fashion which is duh....SEPTEMBER...for all of my true fashionistas...and the September issues of all the major magazines will be thick and full from cover to cover of couture and ready to wear fashions for all of us to either faint over or forget about....yeah let's be real-sometimes fashion can be a bit ummm FAKE and FRIVOLOUS

but nonetheless I fear the day when its fate is forever gone....anyhow as usual I digress...ok back to my point....so as I glanced over the many magazines I noticed one significant trend

SEQUINS...damnit...SEQUINS...that is it and that is all-and the four women representing these variety of magazines further prove that you can rock this trend in several ways regardless of your shape, color or size...its all about proper EXECUTION ...I've made my point...and in the words of TIM GUNN...carry on

GET SLAPPED FOR SLEEPING ON MY SEQUINS

Ok so everyone knows that fashion is just like history- hell that's why they even have courses on the collegiate level entitled FASHION HISTORY which I plan to teach- because fashion like general history has a tendency to repeat itself. I for one love when a trend reaches resurgence but find even more pleasure when I have pounced upon it before it has made its  return voyage back to the mainstream masses.

The perfect example is that of BEADING, EMBELLISHMENTS & SEQUINS- but specifically SEQUINS. Now that anyone that knows me knows my true love for anything sached and soaked in them...whether headbands, handbags and especially haute pieces of couture. Whether I bedazzle them myself or someone else has the notion for notions I LOVE anything with sequins. My most prized sequined pieces are my silver sequined bag from my late grandmother, Josephine aka Suga and my black and gold sequined cocktail dress by Tadashi Shoji

Many women shy away from such garb because its viewed as gaudy- but my goodness I can't get enough. Being a 5'10" self-named Glamazon- I charge it to being a drag queen in my former life- stage name Darling Nikki DeVeReaux and took notice of this haute topic trend at this year's BET AWARDS

CHECK OUT FREE- AND HER UMMM "ASSETS" IN THE HUE OF ALUMINUM & GOLD

THEN THERE WAS ASHANTI WEARING A JEWEL TONE TEAL THAT WAS BACKLESS & EMBELLISHED WITH BEADING

YOU HAD TO CATCH A GLIMPSE OF CEELO IN HIS SHIMMERING SHELL WHILE IN TRIBUTE TO PATTI LABELLE

LET'S STAY TOGETHER STAR- JOYFUL DRAKE- HAD A JAW DROPPING THREE TONE GREEN SEQUINED COCKTAIL FROCK THAT WAS FIERCE

THE ALWAYS CUTE KEKE PALMER IN A SILVER SEQUINED MINI

LALA VASQUEZ- ANTHONY LOOKED UBER LUXE IN THIS ALMOST LIQUID SEQUINED MINI & GLADIATOR SANDALS

LET'S NOT FORGET THE MOVE MAKING MARSHA AMBROSIUS IN HER ANKLE LENGTH BEADED GOWN WITH THE BOLD BELT- BELTING OUT IF ONLY YOU KNEW- HOW MUCH I DO LOVE SEQUINS BOO

AND LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST THE TANTALIZING TOCARRA IN A TURQUOISE TIERED MINI WITH BOLD BLACK & PEWTER PLATFORMS

These trendsetters definitely didn't sleep on my sequins and neither should you. This is a trend that takes confidence and a cute frame to fit it.

Signing off always,

HAPPY 25TH BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!!

My first night there- headed out to see the Bruce Bruce Comedy Show

 All Black Everything of Course

Woke up the next morning and my sister had made me an awesome breakfast and surprised me with flowers

We took a pic with the Big Man Himself Bruce Bruce- he was absolutely hilarious

An afternoon at the Spa- don't mind if I do...we had the best massages and foot soaks

I had to borrow my sister's bracelets because they were made of sea beads which I love and  they just highlighted my newest addition of umm body "art"

At a friend's Birthday cookout so I had to be cute

The Shops of Pembroke Creek I believe- the palm trees were just perfect

I felt like I was back in Texas- riding behind this foolery

Those Bedford Beauties- ready for her Florida friend Bailey's wedding

En route to the wedding

My sister got all extra cute- why cuz it was my BIRTHDAY

At Hard Rock Cafe for Dinner and had to stop by and take note of my Baby Daddy Prince's Purple Rain presentation

The Hard Rock was clearly the spot that night- because parking was extra tight

A mojito and a hurricane got me in my lane- for my BIRTHDAY why not have two...don't mind if I do

Headed to the dock to board the boat to the Bahamas

Before Lunch at Bahama Breeze

A little shopping at Victoria's Secret- they had my room all ready for me- yep STARLET is the name

A little light Birthday shopping

Ducks on the drive home

And returning home with a small delay in Dallas- look at the people- they thought I was taking a picture of them- ummm no

All in All I had an awesome time and can't wait to get in the mix at 26

CATCH ME AT THE CFDA BRINGING IT TO THE MAX

This year's Annual Council of Fashion Designers of America was held on Monday, June 6 at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. Sponsored by Swarovski this events honored some of fashion's biggest legends and rising icons including Mr. Marc Jacobs himself as the recipient of the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.  I chose to highlight this year's award ceremony because I aspire to not only attend the CFDA Awards one day but to become a recipient of one of its many illustrious awards.

While many opted for the conventional cocktail length look- the trend that totally caught my eye and took it to the max was the free flowing and femininity of the floor length gowns. Some of the industry's most fierce and fabulous fashionistas floated across the carpet in the most alluring and elongated pieces I've seen this year & the maxi has definitely become a mainstream marker maker in my book. Everyone knows that if could wear one of these everyday I would....#dontjudgeme

 Alessandra Ambrosio

 Chanel Iman in Turquoise

Jessica Alba cute in color blocking an aforementioned trend

The never Jaded Judith Light in Chartreuse- her figure is amazing for her age

The Lavishly Lush Liya Kebede in White

The Scintillating Sessilee Lopez in Glam Gold with Designer Zac Posen

I could see my girl Beyonce in this gown

MAKE EM' MELT IN A MONOKINI

As we approach Memorial Day and the sun releases its rays- this month brings about the celebration of graduations & of course parties- poolside. Many will be celebrating in Miami at South Beach or laying somewhere near home. Many women will pull out from their pounds of summer pret-a-porter or purchase a perfectly petite two piece- but I myself am a fan of the monokini.

The monokini is a versatile version of the one-piece for the vivacious vixen who believes that the bikini on the beach is just too bland. So here are a few options for the fierce but keep in mind this fashion is not for the faint of heart or those who are not fans of fitness....so before you make money for a mono make sure you it right got it tight ladies!!!!! I'm JUST SAYING!!!

Herve Leger Swimwear

Go for Color and feminine detail

Simplistically printed

Be a girl in graphics with a graphic print monokini

For a full figured fashionista fierce enough to fit her fluffy fullness into a mono- try this one strap style and still be  fabulous

As always Fashionably Yours,
